Landscape Value Long considered to be the best golden-leaved form of Elder, selected many years ago but seldom available. Leaves are deeply cut and glowing yellow, particularly in early summer. Clusters of fragrant white flowers appear in June. Well suited to the perennial border, some gardeners choose to prune plants back each spring to between 1 and 3 feet to encourage a compact form. This can also be allowed to grow without yearly pruning, making it more suited to the shrub border or as a background plant. Also excellent in large tubs as a focal point. Best with afternoon shade. |
